Territorial foresight for Intergenerational Justice
Tools and Practices for Sustainable Regional Policy and Planning
9:00 – 13:00
Details
This interactive session will explore how regional policies and spatial plans can use territorial foresight to address the long-term territorial impacts of climate change, demographic shifts, digitalization, and sustainable growth. Practical tools are required to help develop forward-looking visions that address these impacts, translate visions into concrete actions for policy and planning, and foster collective participation in territories and communities.
The session will begin with presentations and discussions from both academic and practitioner perspectives on the current application of territorial foresight methods and techniques to articulate visions of future development in territories, as well as how these are integrated into policies and plans.
Participants will then form small groups for a workshop activity to deliberate key questions: How can regional policies and spatial plans balance the trade-offs between immediate and long-term economic, environmental, and social pressures? What type of objectives should be prioritized, and what does this mean for associated indicators, targets, and timescales? Who should be involved in setting these, and how?
- Plenary talks followed by interactive discussion
- This session is in The Hague and can also be attended digitally
